Loyola Institute of Business Administration or LIBA is a business school in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It was established in 1979. LIBA is a jesuit institution of the Loyola College, Chennai. Both these institutions are run by the Loyola College Society.

The autonomous school is governed by a Board, and offers a full-time MBA (PGDBM) program (2 years), part-time MBA (PGDBM) program (3 years) and various executive diploma courses and also is a resource center for PhD programs offered in affiliation with the University of Madras. Current full-time MBA classes have a size of approximately 120 students. Present Director of LIBA is Father P. Christie.

LIBA secured the 9th rank in the Business Today-Nielsen Survey 2009 which ranks Management Institutes in India annually.[1]

History

Loyola Institute of Business Administration (LIBA) was established in 1979 with a three-year part time PGDBM programme mainly to cater to the needs of those executives in and around Chennai.

The part time PGDBM programme has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Since 1995, LIBA offers a two-year fulltime PGDM programme. This programme has been approved by the AICTE and is recognized as equivalent to an MBA degree of Indian Universities by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). LIBA also has collaborations with several Universities overseas and seeks to imbibe a global mindset in its students.

Campus

Nestled in the picturesque Loyola campus in the heart of Chennai, LIBA is a world in itself. Its scenic and idyllic surroundings provide an experience beyond compare. However, in contrast to its sylvan setting, LIBA is a cauldron of activities, ideas and ambitions. State-of-the-art infrastructure facilities at LIBA render an atmosphere that is conducive for learning and development.

Admissions

Admissions to the two year full-time MBA is done through XAT examination(LIBA 2010 Admissions [1]) conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur. From these year for 2012-13 batch LIBA has also started accepting CAT 2011 scores. So for 2012-13 batch Candidates applying to LIBA will be short-listed on the basis of their XAT and CAT scores. Short-listed candidates are then called for a Group Discussion and a Personal Interview for final selection at Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Management Development Centre

LIBA's Management Development Centre designs, develops and conducts customized programmes to suit industry needs. The focus is on creating skill-development programmes that equip managers with the required expertise.

Long Term Executive Programmes

These programmes, designed in collaboration with corporates are industry-supported in their course content and design. They are conducted with an aim to equip corporates working in these areas with a deeper understanding of the management principles involved.

These programmes are meant for executives who have no knowledge of different management verticals.

Annual National Management Symposium organized by Loyola Institute of Business Administration, Chennai. This is an event organized by LIBA Chennai every year

ESPIRE

ESPIRE is a Business plan competition organized by the Entreprenuership Cell of LIBA. This is an Annual evetns designed to promote and help forster and help budding Entreprenuers build their ideas. The Contest is open to business ideas that involve or leverage technology in any sphere of human activity - be it services, energy, agriculture, manufacturing, construction or education, to name a few possibilities. The contesting teams will include students and experienced professionals, and the entries will be evaluated by a team of Jurors that will include successful Entrepreneurs, VCs, Industry Captains and members of the Academia.

It seeks to achieve the same by forming men and women imbued with a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship. One more noble effort to achieve this vision is the launch of the Prof. C. K. Prahalad Centre for Emerging India. Prof. C. K. Prahalad’s premise that business models can mobilize socio-economic change by engaging the poor in the marketplace profitably is the inspiration behind the ‘Prof. C. K. Prahalad Centre for Emerging India’. The centre seeks to promote entrepreneurial ideas produced by and more importantly for the Base of the Pyramid. Conceptualizing and creating products and services targeted towards the base of the pyramid requires innovative intellection. The centre will endeavor to encourage and equip entrepreneurs engaged in BOP market development.

Mother Teresa Award

Under the auspices of the Centre for Business Ethics and Corporate Governance, the prestigious Mother Teresa Award for Corporate Citizenship, instituted in 1998, is presented every year to a company that has shown exemplary commitment to the ideal of being a responsible corporate.

The Mother Teresa Award for Corporate Citizenship 2008 was awarded to the Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL). The award and citation were presented to Mr. K. K. Acharya, Managing Director, CPCL by the distinguished Prof. C. K. Prahalad (Paul and Ruth McCracken Professor of Strategy, Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, USA), an alumnus of Loyola College.

Past winners of the Mother Teresa award for Corporate Citizenship include NTPC, Polaris, Tata Sons, Titan Industries, Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers, Indian Oil Corporation, TVS Motor Company and Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals.

Libarated

‘LIBARATED’ is LIBA's annual intra-colligiate cultural fest where the students put on their dancing shoes, test their vocal chords and set the ramp on fire. It breaks all the barriers and brings the entire LIBA family under one roof. The venue of LIBARATED has a magical feeling about it with people dressed to kill and enthusiasm level reaching its crescendo.

Chrysalis

LIBA-Chrysalis is the annual national management festival conducted by the students of LIBA.Students of Management Schools from different parts of the country participate in the various events organized as a part of LIBA-Chrysalis.LIBA’s stamp on the national management festival circuit, is a highly competitive and prestigious event that brings to fold the power, synergy and divergent thinking of some of the best minds from the top Indian B-Schools and corporate houses across the country. Reputed for its intense competition and camaraderie,the event promises to get bigger and better year after year. Year after year, LIBA-Chrysalis has over 50 top B-schools combating for the top honours, and this year we expect LIBA-Chrysalis 2011 to attract participation from more than 100 colleges and corporate houses from across the nation, in events that range from management games to cultural contests to sports challenges and much more! LIBA-Chrysalis is known to attract the best minds from the B-Schools all across India, including the IIM’s, NMIMS, SPJIMR, IMT and many others who battle it out for the top honours.

Exquizite

Exquizite is Chrysalis’s flagship event. The annual corporate business quiz is hosted by Mr. Derek O Brien, the most renowned quiz master in the country. Over the years, Exquizite has grown to be one of the most prestigious quizzing events among corporates and B-Schools, with 237 teams participating in 2009. It provides a platform where sharp minds from B Schools and the corporate world meet and test their prowess, skills and knowledge in over four hours of intense quizzing.
